X. Maroon

“Jetsam”

Limp, exhausted,
she washes in,
with the incoming tide.
Along with debris from her raft,
and self.
She wakes
from the scrape of beach sand
grated against her cheek.

He stares out
At the water,
it is crystal clear.
His makeshift ship,
To his back,
on it
he considers attempting
to set sail.

She now learns to walk
on land
and to comb sand.
She is not the one
who left shore
so long ago
–this creature who grits teeth,
And holds in
air,
and twists legs into tail,
and arms wrestling waters
And demons
Of mind, air and sea.

Dialectic, in Peace and Love

2.18.17

Away from you,

With me,
Still,
a piece
of you
Keeps me striving
To be
a better Me.

The Piece- a memory
Keeps me awake,
Unwilling
To settle for less
Than tomorrow
And judgement-free me
I neither hear,
Nor see you
But knowing
You are
You were
You are possible, just to be
Keeps me in motion
Balancing
wiser,
As my self.

I thank you
From my
Crescent top
Back
And forth
Up and down,
And still
I’ll rise
Out of sight
Even still
Your memory
Reminds me
Of the proven possibility,
Of peace,
peace with, and within
me

VI. Paradigm Shifts

Acquiescence

After day 28
she stopped counting the days
since she stepped
aboard

“Home
is where
the heart is,”
she whispers to her shadow.

Inventory

She wakes,
angrily.

Again on her raft
compass has gone missing
lost to the sea.

Oar, canteen, bag and
ocean remaining,
Again.

Of hands,
there are 2
of lips, 2,
of bodies, 1,
of thoughts
hers;
Alone.

“Beasts”

The daemons
remain,
hate is their
amusement.

And they descend
upon
the tired,
bored,
lost,
lonely

Only virtue
–a near impossible feat–
Saves
the few
from transforming
into these same
beasts.

III. Thoughts

Wondering

Storm
and another week
passed,
Wondering.

She wonders
how supplies
for 1
seem to be
never ending
in supply

A skeptical believer
sometimes
suspects.
Her fortune
On this quest
so far
Gifted
by some
Benevolent,
Omniscient
Power.

“Acquiescence”

And then
one day
she stopped
counting the days
since she
had stepped
aboard.
She had never considered
that cabin fever
or being castaway
could be
so terrible

“Home is where the heart is”
She whispers
to her shadow.
